According to Famitsu publisher Enterbrain (reported by IGN) the DSi has had a hugely successful launch, selling 170,779 of the shipped 200,000 units in its first two days on sale.

The new larger screened, camera equipped DS went on sale on November 1 and with most of the initial shipment now sold out consumers will have to wait until next week when a further 100,000 units are promised.

The DSi is currently without a firm Western release date, but will be appearing across Europe and the Americas in 2009.

As always nintendo like to keep items back to cause a buzz and hysteria. The less units are available the more people want them. Just think Wiii launch and Wii last christmas. Its a tactic that has been used many times through out console launches.

200,000 units doesn't sound like a lot for a launch. If another 100,000 are due the next week then why not delay the launch by a week?
