DS has sold 40 million units in Europe

Has reached the milestone quicker than any other video game platform.

Nintendo has announced that there are now over 40 million Nintendo DS and 20 million Wii consoles which have been sold across Europe.

The Nintendo DS family, including Nintendo DS Lite and the Nintendo DSi has seen the fastest growth in European video game history, reaching 40 million unit sales in less than five years. The Nintendo DS launched in Europe on March 11, 2005.

Wii continues its momentum, becoming the fastest selling home console in Europe by reaching the 20 million milestone in just over three years - launched in Europe on December 8, 2006.

The Wii is also home to some blockbuster video games, including Wii Sports Resort (around five million units), New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2.5 million units) and Wii Fit - which together with Wii Fit Plus has sold 11 million units (9.6 million of which were bundled with the Wii Balance Board).
