Shiny Entertainment founder Dave Perry has resigned from his position at the company to allow him to focus on finding the ideal buyer for the development studio.
Following on from Atari's decision to sell off its in-house development studios, Shiny Entertainment founder and head Dave Perry has resigned from the company in order to stimulate potential buyers into a bidding war. Once the right buyer has been found Perry will return to the studio.
"Atari can go ahead and sell Shiny but I think I can help too because I'm on the board of a lot of things. I can bring a lot of parties to the table and I can do that faster if I hit the streets myself," Perry said speaking to the Orange County Register. "If I'm an employee of Atari, then I'd be stepping all over them. This way, I'm representing a buyer. I can act swiftly and get buyers on the table. I pitched Shiny last time and got $47 million."
Perry is unable to actually sell the company, but he will be concentrating on getting "publishers excited about the company enough to get a bidding war going on." According to Perry there has already been "a lot of interest" from potential buyers. Shiny is probably best known for its Matrix titles, but rose to fame with the release of Earthworm Jim in the mid 90s.
