2K Games' highly anticipated FPS will only be appearing on the Xbox 360 and the Games for Windows platforms.
In development at Irrational Games, BioShock is seen by many as the spiritual successor to System Shock, and was expected to be announced for the PlayStation 3 at some point in the future. That isn't the case though, as 2K Games has announced that the game is an exclusive title for the Xbox 360 and PC (under the Games for Windows brand).
"2K is excited to release BioShock exclusively on Xbox 360 and under the Games for Windows brand on the PC," said Christoph Hartmann, President, 2K. "BioShock is the next step in the evolution of first-person shooters and a perfect title to push the limits of Xbox 360."
"We expect BioShock will set a new mark in next generation gaming when it launches next year," said George Peckham, general manager, global third party publishing for the Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft. "We're thrilled that gamers will be able to experience BioShock only as an Xbox 360 and Games for Windows title."
BioShock takes place in Rapture, an underwater city hidden by the sea, left to stagnate and become populated by dangerous genetically modified citizens. No firm release date is set, but BioShock will arrive at some point in 2007.
