Members of hacktivist collective steal IP addresses and passwords.

Internet hacktivists Anonymous have been hacked. In a message posted to AnonOps.in, a subsect of Anonymous' AnonOps network, admins have claimed a former member organised the attack.

Anonymous have accused the hacker, known only as "Ryan", of stealing IP addresses and passwords of users on both AnonOps.net and AnonOps.ru websites, as well as launching Denial of Service attacks against them.

According to the website,

"[Ryan] decided that he didn’t like the leaderless command structure that AnonOps Network Admins use. So he organised a coup d’etat, with his "friends" at skidsr.us . Using the networks service bot "Zalgo" he scavenged the IP's and passwords of all the network servers (including the hub) and then systematically aimed denial of service attacks at them.'"

The effected sites are used by Anonymous as a communication service between members to organise key operations against anti-piracy groups, as well as to plan activities in support of the uprisings and protests throughout Egypt, Syria and Tunisia.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

Interestingly this follows rumours that the hacking attacks on Sony's PlayStation Network were performed by an Anonymous splinter group. While Anonymous officially denied responsibility it seems increasingly likely that wayward members within the collective may have had a hand.

For now we advise all users to stay away from the Anon sites until this issue gets resolved.
