Visually enhanced DirectX 10 version to premiere at Games Convention in Leipzig this August.
Funcom has regrettably announced that the DirectX 10 version of its MMO, Age of Conan, will not ship with the initial launch. Funcom says it has decided to ship only the DirectX 9 version and spend more time on building a DirectX 10 version "worthy of Microsoft's great vision for the future of PC gaming".
The extra development time will give Funcom time to implement more features in the DirectX 10 version of Age of Conan than originally planned.
The new, enhanced DX10 version will be premiered at Games Convention in Leipzig in August 2008. A special preview will be unveiled this summer at Nvidia's NVISION event in San Jose, California, August 25 - 27, 2008.
Age of Conan launches on May 20 in North America and on May 23 across Europe.

I only just found this out today. I was wondering why the DX10 check box was removed from the game in a recent patch. It turns out it was because the option never even existed. Funcom has done VERY little to inform people about this and if I didn't specifically hunt it out I don't even know how I would know. It's certainly barely addressed on their site in any clear way and it seems a majority of players are willing to just forget about it.
Personally, I am not. I feel I was falsely advertised to. It was an option in the game, it's on every damn box without an asterisk that says "Oh, we really mean it'll come out in August!". It was heavily pushed in previews as using DX10 and Microsoft even had it on their Direct X 10 capable list on the Games for Windows site.
Instead tons of people would rather make excuses. Why? Funcom didn't give me anything, I PAID for it. I don't care if someone hates Vista or can't afford a DX10 card or thinks it looks great in DX9. These are all irrelevant to this problem.
We were told one thing and got another and somehow people are defending that. I honestly think I should get my damn money back. At least put a sticker on the boxes in stores that tells people the mode isn't in there yet.
