Will show people Treyarch is a 'serious studio that people should take notice of'.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com Activision senior producer Noah Heller said that World at War's multiplayer "feels much better than any Call of Duty I've had a chance to play".
Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare has proven a massive success online following its late 2007 release. It regularly swaps top spot on the most-played Xbox LIVE leaderboard with Bungie's Halo 3, and is considered by many to be the best online competitive multiplayer FPS currently available.
World at War, due out on November 14, is developed by Treyarch, the developer responsible for Call of Duty 3 and the upcoming Bond game Quantum of Solace. In the run up to the game's release Treyarch has endured a degree of cynicism from CoD4 fans regarding the possibility of World at War being as good or better than Infinity Ward's hit title.
However, Heller believes that World at War will prove a hit with fans and will convince the doubters of the studio's credentials.
"Infinity Ward is a great studio and there's always going to be great studios," he said. "I think that the game will speak for itself and it will show people that we're a serious studio that people should take notice of. I'm not going to compare us to Infinity Ward but I will say that everyone who is involved in the CoD brand holds it to the highest degree and we feel like we're finally approaching the bar that we needed to approach, and that's a significant thing for us. So when it comes to the time for us to make our next game, or even when it comes time to make the next map packs or anything else connected to this game, we're going to know that that bar is set pretty high."
He added: "It was hard coming out to see people six or seven months ago and say, 'we know the bar is set very low, let us convince you why we can raise the bar', but we'd much rather know that the bar is high and have to meet a new bar. Basically I think we're happy to say the game speaks for itself and we hope when people look at future Treyarch games they'll say, 'you need to give us a game as good as World at War'."

At launch, I don't doubt this game will sell really well (off the back of a successful CoD4). I just feel it won't have nowhere near the same longevity or popularity that CoD4 obtained. After a couple of weeks, when the novelty of a new 'CoD' shooter has worn off, and the games niggles really start to irritate, it'll quickly fade away - even more so after the arrival of Gears of War 2 and other 'blockbuster' titles.
Don't get me wrong though, Treyarch have definitely improved over their previous title, CoD3, but CoD:WaW just plays and feels like a amateur mod/expansion of CoD4. It's simply nowhere near as highly polished, refined or as well crafted as CoD4. A game which I think I'll stick with in the long run... until Infinity Ward release the next 'proper' CoD game.
Treyarch should really try their hand at something else to get out from under InfinityWards shadow.Last edited on Mon 20 October 2008 by Rogue Soul

I'd imagine the bugs, glithches, weapon imbalances and dodgy hit detection would be ironed out from the results of the beta testing.

Frankly I couldn't care less about packs of dogs instead of helicopters or a brand new profile section (it's a damn profile), there's no way i'm going to have to return to Tommyguns and M2 Rifles that you can only reload when the entire magazine is spent. Not to mention they took out Last Stand, a perk where you work for your kill, but left in MartyrDUMB, a perk used only by people who want cheap kills and sit laughing manically when +10 comes up durng the KillCam just before they go back to sucking on their trousers. Hopefully all the noobs will F off to the new games and leave the pro's to Modern Warfare. At least I won't be destroyed by MartyrDUMB for much longer.

Only EA had has a crack at it, and it was a medicore game but the pearl harbour part was the only best bit about it.
Anyway COD5 does have the potential to become better than COD4, but with COD4 it isn't no more special than any other FPS but with a good rank system, perks which enhance you but is there any need for them... I have COD4 and love it but spending my time on the game for a while, it has made me think on how COD4 become the best FPS in decades. Its nothing major to look at and neither is COD5 in there perspective view.
But I'm looking forward to COD5 and when IW take over, its going to be a different story on how there going to do one better than COD4. But still you shall have a full review from me when I actually experience the full throttle of the COD5 multiplayer.

It would be so boring having these old ww2 guns in MP.
Tommy gun, BAR , Bren etc all so very old .
Give me a new COD4 with other new modern guns or even conceptual ones.
I want Tavor 21, Groza, Steyr aug, M8, Sig 552.
I want it set in EU or China , perhaps in north america.
Several new MP maps and ranks again that would be great.
I will give this game a pass.

I want to point this out to anyone reading GothicJoes rant...I took the game round his house today, and he ****ing loved it...we played for hours, coop campaign and online, and he said, and I quote "this is ****ing awesome" he also owned it up, 34-4 and scores like such....so, remember people, keep an open mind because anyones opinion can change
