Does, however, have the characteristics of a category it would be interested in.
Speaking to IndustryGamers, Activision president Mike Griffith has revealed the publisher is interested in entering the sports category, but admits success would be difficult.
"It certainly has the characteristics of a category that would be interesting to us, but we would have to convince ourselves that we could enter successfully, accomplish leadership and that we'd have something new and different to bring to the party; right now the barriers to entry there are pretty significant, but it is certainly the size of a category that we would be interested in," said Griffith.
EA is currently the clear leader in the sports category, with the only real competition coming from Take-Two's 2K Sports range and THQ's WWE and UFC games. Ubisoft is also making strides to claim some of the sports market, with its Shaun White series and the recently announced football game, Academy of Champions.
