Will utilise Microsoft's Silverlight technology.

According to a MediaPost report, Microsoft plans to bring its Silverlight graphical framework to the Xbox 360, enabling online advertising campaigns to run on the console.

Microsoft will open up space for advertising, expected to be on the Xbox 360 Dashboard, that will be identical to what is available for web ads.

Silverlight is also expected to be put to other uses on the Xbox 360. Video rental service Netflix uses Silverlight to enable streaming video and MediaPost believes Microsoft will do the same to offer Xbox 360 users higher quality streaming video options.

This would be acceptable on PSN as it's free but having to pay for something then having ads everywhere would be ridiculous, but they are in league with Sky now so maybe they are following their model.

The article does not actually state anything other than the potential is now there for marketing teams to create unified campaigns. It doesn't tell us anything about MS' plans to incorporate this onto the NXE. That being said, I have already switched my subscription to monthly, to allow me to cancel it more readily if MS continue to downgrade my perceived level of service. I would hope that instead of being vocal on the internet about it, other people would actually cancel their Gold subscription if we were to start getting adverts than those we already get.

If I let Microsoft shove advertisements down my throat willingly will they waive my £39.99 annual XBox Live Gold membership fee?
