Konami has announced an all-new racing game for the PSP entitled Pocket Racers, due for release in the spring.
Rather than simply racing remote control cars, the game has an elaborate story to explain why pocket sized cars are racing. You play a spoilt teenager at a party who is transformed into a toy car by a vengeful demon. You must then race for survival as the demon sets a series of challenges that you must complete.
As you race you can collect Soul Shards which are scattered throughout the play area. These shards are then used to improve the toy car and as a result inflict massive damage on rival cars or the environments in which you are racing. Additional weapons and power-ups such as nitro boosts and missiles can be collected to help you complete the challenges.
Everyday environments such as a messy bedroom, kitchen and factory form the courses through which you race, and they're full of sneaky short-cuts and hidden extras to find. The car you race will depend on the environment you find yourself in, with sports cars, trucks, 4x4s and coupes all featured in the game.
Pocket Racers also supports up to four players in various wireless multiplayer modes. These include a tagging game where the aim is to colour objects, and a football game where tight, responsive controls are a must.
Pocket Racers is scheduled for a European PSP release in the spring.
