240,000 PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles were sold in the UK last week as a result of heavy Black Friday discounting, MCV reports.

The magazine states that sales of the two consoles were “roughly split equally”, with sales reportedly spiking by “over 120 per cent” week-on-week.

Mike Fethers, senior games buyer at retail group The Hut, suggests that the two consoles were split by just 300 units.

With Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS taken into account, over 300,000 consoles and almost 2 million games are reported to have been sold in the UK throughout Black Friday week, generating over £150m in revenue.

PS4 and Xbox One both saw significant reductions throughout the Black Friday weekend with retailers slashing the two consoles to under £279.

But while both consoles performed fairly evenly in the UK, Xbox One is said to have “dominated” PS4 in North America. Neither platform holder has yet announced official sales figures for the Black Friday weekend.
