The N64's classic water-based racer makes its long overdue debut.

Wave Race 64 was one of those "I can't believe my eyes" games. The power of the N64 was used beautifully to create the most realistic water console gamers had ever seen. Not only did the water look amazing, but the waves actually crashed against the player's Jet Ski and pushed it off course.
In addition to being a fine racer, Wave Race 64 featured an amazing stunt mode which alone warranted the game's purchase. There's also a two-player split-screen mode for those with a competitive streak.
Fans and those new to the game can rejoice in the news that the game is now available on the European Virtual Console. It will set you back 1000 Wii Points, but don't let this put you off buying an all-time classic.
Sadly there's no support for saving ghost laps, but on a positive note the frame rate has been smoothed out which should offer players more control in areas previously tarnished by stuttering frames.
Also released this week is the TurboGrafx classic Cratermaze. Priced 600 Wii Points, the game will see players frantically digging holes to defend against historical enemies such as dinosaurs, samurai warriors and futuristic robots.
