Realtime Worlds is aware of the problem and is working on a fix - workaround offered for time being.
Game updates seem to have a habit of causing problems, and the newly released Crackdown game update is no different. Some users are experiencing a problem which is resetting their saved games and quite understandably causing some upset amongst Crackdown players.
Realtime Worlds is aware of the problem and has made a post on the game's official forums informing players that a fix is on the way soon as part of the game's next title update. However, the fix won't restore any save games which have been reset.
To avoid having your save reset, Crackdown players should take the following precautions.
1: Sign-in to Xbox Live
2: Start Crackdown and receive new Title Update (if you haven't already)
3: Begin a Single Player Campaign game
4: Once loaded, press Start and choose "Quit"
5: Reboot Crackdown (soft reboot or hard reboot of console)
The problem is caused by the forced update and not the newly available downloadable content, so once you have carried out these steps you should be free to download and play with the new content risk free.
