EA says Gears of War has zero innovation

Alain Tascan, general manager for EA Montreal has stated that he thinks Gears of War has been overrated by the video games press.

Speaking at the Montréal Games Summit, Tascan said, "What is Gears of War? I mean Gears of War brings nothing in terms of innovation to the shooter... Like, zero."

Tascan also added: "Why are people loving it so much? It's like added production value, incredible cutscenes and the best ever graphics ever. I'm sure it's going to be a great success, I can't wait to play it, but let's face that graphics are still number one."

The criticisms are a bit rich coming from company that has relied heavily on reiterations of the same games for well over a decade, and from a guy who admits he is yet to play the game.

ive heard lots things about iheard gamespot gave them a 9 or a 10 it looks a really good game but its just no my type. i aint really into non realistic games. :(

EA wouldn't know innovation if it bit off their left testical, that game has an awesome new cover, reload, and fire system. not to mention the best graphics of any game ever

Yup No innovation

I mean I've seen real innovative games like ICO, Shadow of colossus. This game is pathetic, its those generic "crazy violent" mad man games, which are so boring thats why Tom Clancy like them. Its so dull this game you shoot monster, how isnt that different to halo or resistance or any other games in same natural. Boring dull and not innovative at all. press a or x, right trigger where's the controller or fun. None.

wow why do people always say ico and colossus are really innovative? just because they are sleeper hits doesnt make them innovative. i mean colossus had great art direction and was fun to play, but i have a hard time seeing the innovation. "hold down R2 (or whatever button it was-- its been awhile) to climb across the big monster. oh that spot is glowing. press x once to ready sword, press x again to stab." like omg, how innovative! your basically experiencing the same thing in other games. just because the graphics tell you your climbing on top of a monster doesnt mean it functions any different then another game. im not saying they are completely uninnovative games. i believe all games are innovative in the way they execute familar elements, i just think they get more credit then they should. i do own both ico and colossus tho, and they are great games imo :)

anyway, i bought gears of war and played thru online coop with a friend, and i gotta say, it was an amazing experience. the story was kinda 'wtf just happened' but the presentation and horror elements were excellent. now its not some ultra innovative game, but i think when you make a shooter you have to start in familar territory. build off tried and true ideas. i love the active reload system; just a simple tweak on reloading. and the use of the cover mechanic is good. i think this is a very polished game with moments that you must experience yourself.

and EA pisses me off lol
