Freemium game sees Homer destroying Springfield with a nuclear explosion
A freemium Simpsons game is in the works for iOS and Android. As reported by CNET, The Simpsons: Tapped Out sees Homer destroying Springfield with a nuclear explosion. He then sets out to rebuild the city with a design of his own.
While the game visually resembles a Sim(psons) City, it seems that this urban renewal requires you to complete quests for various members of the show's cast, who will apparently be voiced by their respective actors. The script will also be handled by the show's writers.
This being a freemium title, there's a currency – Donuts – that can be used to speed up your progress. You can find Donuts littered around the City, but EA hopes you'll pay to get them immediately - developing a crippling addiction that sends your entire life spiralling down the toilet.
"We want this to be one of the biggest titles this year," said EA exec Bernard Kim. "We've invested a lot. It's absolutely a top-tier development priority for us."
There's no official release date yet, but CNET seems to think the iOS version will arrive in the next few weeks, with the Android version following a few months later.
I keep a list of the things I once loved, but which are now utterly dead to me. Star Wars sits right at the top, but The Simpsons aren't too far below.
