Helldivers 2 is an incredibly difficult game, especially at the higher difficulties, but that doesn’t stop it from being fun. The chaos as dozens of Automatons and Terminids surround you as you fight to make it to your ship in time in one of the most exhilarating experiences in modern gaming. But, it all depends how good your teammates and during your time as a Helldiver you will likely encounter more than your share of bad teammates. However, it seems like if you want to encounter good players, increase the difficulty to this level for the optimal experience.

U/Diabolical_Jazz took to Reddit to share their experience of finally trying difficulty 7 and how much better the game becomes at that level saying,

“No one told me about difficulty 7 and how much better the players are? I didn’t attempt any diff 7 for a long time because I don’t think of myself as being all that hardcore, and because I didn’t want to pressure my co-op friends into higher difficulties.

Finally fully upgraded my ship as far as I could without supersamples, so I did some diff 6 with randos until I got one where we won.And it was a shitshow. Everyone shooting at every patrol, hitting themselves with orbitals, scattering to every direction, committing to unwinnable fights, everything you can do wrong.

After I unlocked 7, the people there were like professionals. It was a stark difference. Everyone was chill and they did good work. People tag targets, or tag patrols to avoid, they use the little “affirmative, negative, sorry, and thanks” things and are generally communicative.

Why did no one tell me? I’m having a much better time now. I might never lower the difficulty.”

U/FiTroSky noted that there isn’t much difference between level 7 and the higher difficulties except them being more challenging, but level 7 is the sweet spot, with the Reddit user calling it the “easy mode of hard mode.”

U/Seancbo pointed out that level 7 seems to be the sweet spot for higher skilled players and while they can survive at even higher difficulties, at some point it becomes more about just running trying to survive rather than completing objectives and farming Samples saying,

“I think a big part is that a lot of players that could be going higher enjoy it more than 8 or 9. I could be doing Helldive, but I can get samples and I have so much more fun on 7, so I play there.”

As a player that has so far capped his Helldivers 2 journey at level 6, this makes me want to jump in and try a level 7 mission to see whether it is more enjoyable. With Super Samples becoming obtainable at level 7, it is something that all players will eventually have to jump into if they want to unlock all of the Ship Modules So now could be a good time to start, especially with the Automatons recently returning after being briefly eradicated. With level 7 being known as Suicide Mission, now would be a good time to check out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you can equip yourself with the best loadout to survive the stronger enemies found in the higher difficulties.
