Ubisoft has revealed all new information on Splinter Cell Double Agent, which is due for release on Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube and PC in the spring.
Ubisoft say that the latest instalment in the Splinter Cell series will completely revolutionise and reinvent the spy action genre, adding an entirely new breed of gameplay giving a new dimension to the gaming experience.
"Ubisoft is excited to have re-imagined the Splinter Cell franchise by introducing Sam Fisher as a double agent, expanding the depth of his character," says John Parkes, EMEA marketing director at Ubisoft. "Throughout the course of the story, gamers will be forced to make critical decisions which will not only affect how the story plays out but also have very different consequences."
The game is said to be pushing the limits of each platform's respective capabilities, with each version of the game featuring exclusive content. As we have already reported the game takes an entirely new approach, with Sam Fisher beginning the game behind bars. Sam is working undercover as a double agent, with the task of infiltrating a terrorist group. His stint in prison and the subsequent escape are all part of the plan to facilitate Sam's acceptance into the criminal underworld.
Gamers must way up each decision carefully thinking out the consequences of their actions. Killing too many criminals will blow your cover, but hesitating too long could cause the death of millions of innocent people. Because of the double agent aspect to the game Sam will have dual objectives to complete, given to him from the NSA and the terrorist group he infiltrates. Because your actions in the game have consequences the game has a branching storyline with multiple endings unfolding depending on how you play the game.
Missions will take Sam all over the world, from Asia to Africa to the heart of the US, be it underwater, skydiving or in the middle of a sandstorm. No Splinter Cell game would be complete without gadgets and the there will be plenty on offer here, with a mix of NSA government and black-market terrorist gadgets at your disposal. The game will also feature multiplayer action with new innovations for each platform.
Spring 2006 can't come quick enough.
