Welcome to the Rumour mill, VideoGamer.com's run-down of the big rumours currently doing the rounds in the video game industry. Every week we'll hunt down the juiciest stories and give our opinion on how legit they are. So, whether you want the ridiculous or the plausible, read on.

Duke Nukem Forever release in 2008

duke nukem1 -

The Rumour: An unnamed insider has revealed that major progress has been made over the last year. A console version is also planned for release alongside the PC game.

Verdict: We know that development is still ongoing, and the game will surely have to make it to stores sooner rather than later. A console version seems a cert given the strong sales of FPS titles on the Xbox 360 in particular.

Plausibility rating: 3/5

Leading exec leaving Microsoft

The Rumour: In a cryptic message during the 1UP Yours podcast, host Garnett Lee hinted at the departure of Microsoft Games Studios boss Shane Kim.

Verdict: 1UP is a well respected publication and the 1UP Yours podcast was the source of an earlier Microsoft rumour relating to the cancellation (at a production standstill) of Marvel Universe Online. There's no other information, but 1UP isn't in the habit of making things up.

Plausibility rating: 4/5

Crysis incoming for Xbox 360 and PS3

The Rumour: Gorgeous PC first-person shooter Crysis will be released for next-gen consoles in winter 2008.

Verdict: Crytek and EA's sci-fi shooter is shouting out for a home console port and this rumour simply won't die. Console gamers eat up shooters and given EA's multiplatform strategy a port seems a cert. The only concern will be how well the high-end PC visuals can be recreated on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Plausibility rating: 3/5

Next Tony Hawk title to feature major control overhaul

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground screenshot

The Rumour: Given the critical praise lauded on EA's Skate and the general lack of interest in Activision's ageing Tony Hawk franchise, a radical change is planned for 2008 to rejuvenate the series.

Verdict: Critics and seasoned skateboard gamers alike have been falling over themselves to criticise Hawk's latest and it would come as no great surprise to see a compete control overhaul for the next title. Sales in the UK haven't set tills on fire, with the game barely making an impact on the charts.

Plausibility rating: 4/5

That's all until next week, but be sure to let us know if you've heard a juicy rumour.
