Heads-up: What's new this week

A look ahead to Friday's new releases.

Welcome to Heads-up, our weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Tuesday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to splash the cash.

If you haven't noticed, we're in the middle of a bit of a release drought. Other than StarCraft II, there hasn't been a notable release for quite some time. This week there's nothing to recommend, so you can either pick up a game you missed (like the aforementioned StarCraft II) or save your pennies for games due in the coming months. Halo: Reach is out in a month, and if you can't wait that long Mafia II and Kane & Lynch: Dog Days arrive in a few weeks.

I hate the drought - because it's always followed by 5 games that I want being released in one month!

I ordered Dark Star One and Alpha Protocol for the 360 to ease me through the drought. The first one because despite a critical panning I'm looking forward to reliving my Elite days, and the second one because despite a critical panning I think I'm going to really enjoy it.
