A look ahead to Friday's new releases.

Welcome to Heads-up, our weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Tuesday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to splash the cash.

Recommended: God of War 3 – PS3

If our glowing 10/10 review isn't enough to make you want God of War 3, perhaps a few strong words here will push you over the edge. If you like action games, buy God of War 3. It's that simple. Even if you don't have a PS3, buy the console and then buy God of War 3. It's that good. The PS3 has been on a great run of late, and God of War 3 is the pick of a very good bunch of recent exclusives. If you're wondering if you should really buy the console to get one game, Heavy Rain should be back in stock at most places now, so pick that up too.

Worth a look

If you really don't want to buy God of War 3, there are lots of other games out this week that might take your fancy. Command & Conquer 4 is the big one, but is it going to be more of the same? MotoGP 09/10 is a solid take on the motor sport, albeit a fairly by the numbers one; Torchlight looks to offer some Blizzard-like Diablo gameplay for those of us fed up with waiting; Dragon Age Origins: Awakening is a full-on expansion to the excellent BioWare RPG; and Metro 2033 offers spooky goings on in a disused Russian underground system.

Moto GP 09/10 - Xbox 360 and PS3
Metro 2033 - PC and Xbox 360
Dragon Age Origins: Awakening - Xbox 360 and PC
Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight – PC
Torchlight - PC

And the rest...

Scene It? Twilight - Wii, DS, PC
It's My Circus - Wii

New stuff to check out

Once I've finished with GoW3, Metro 2033 will probably be my next purchase.

When can we expect the VG review for Metro 2033?

Metro2033 seems to have a surprisingly large amount of praise behind it... I'm looking forward to see what it is like. I do like little details in my games, and this is purportedly riddled with them...
