Are you on the list?

"Stereotypes are devices for saving a biased person the trouble of learning," or so the old saying goes. If you’re a biased person, save yourself a whole load of hassle by blindly embracing this list of clichés.

The MMO Nut

He's overweight, his skin is the colour of dirty milk and there's a nasty rash spreading up his leg. Sunlight is a distant memory and his bank account is constantly hammered by takeaway bills and monthly subscription costs. He doesn't care: he's got Vis'kag the Bloodletter, a license to grind and a clan of friends he's never met. Currently engaged to a Dwarven priest from Iceland.

What about the 'gaming parent'

The spirit of a hardcore gamer softened by their offspring and leading to an existence flickering between stolen moments of gaming and parental responsibilities. Most likely to own a PS3 or 360 and bought a Wii to encourage the kids in order to keep them occupied while they keep their console free of finger prints and jam in the disc tray.

Yeah, I owned both a C64 and Amiga 500 back in the day. I can say without any doubt though that apart from the mostly fond memories of both, I'm sure glad I have a current gen console and 1080p HD. I wouldn't go back.

I remember trying to play the Red Arrows game on the C64. Loading that tape deck was a bloody nightmare! If I put it on before school and ran the boot command, I might have got to play it when I got home lol. An exaggeration of course but it used to take forever. Those old floppy discs were cool though. For some reason I associate them with the smell of bubble gum. I must have chewed a fair bit as a kid playing C64 :)

What!? C64 > All....except the Amiga...I always wanted an Amiga :( I'd get a game and there'd always be a section explaining what you DON'T get if you don't have the Amiga version :(

I don't care that the Spectrum had colour clash - it was still better that the C64 - and that's the last I wanna hear about it!!! I'm off to play D&D now!

I buy more games than I have time to play but as I earn the cash, I cannot possibly fit into the rich kid category. I can relate El-Dev in that I have games I have not finished because I've bought something else half way through... Seems like a waste of money but with all the releases popping up there's rarely a month gone by that I don't buy a game(s). Thank god for ebay and preowned when playing catch up with what I miss. The whole VIP thing with dlc stands to ruin that for everyone soon enough though.

I reckon I fit in to "The Rich Kid" more than any, but I tend to spend most of my money on games then fleece my parents for the non-essentials, like clothes and food. I fund my game collection through my interest free student overdraft and working. I generally don't complete most of my games unless I really like them or the story is good, something I am trying to rectify at the minute.

Add clangod to the gaming parent stereotype.

Not really sure there is a gaming parent "stereotype" as such, but I like it anyway and I'm in that box with pride.

Nice little article, Neon. Just a shame I'm not on the list. But then again perhaps that's a good thing.

Er...probably a combination of Japanophile and King of Fighters....I used to be a bit of an MMOnut as well. Guild Wars 2 may herald the return of the MMOnut!
