Who comes out on top in this week's DLC round-up?

The console war is fought everywhere these days, but the internet seems to be where people are most vocal. It also serves to give each console its own set of downloadable content, fuelling the war even more. Each week we'll give you a run-down of what's available to download on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, and declare a winner.

Note: This round-up is based on UK releases to each console's online service and does not include premium video content. Releases outside of the UK could vary.

PlayStation 3 - PSN

It's a rather bare-bones update to PSN this week, with little in the way of PSN games and two demos. Linger in the Shadows, the PS3 interactive tech demo, headlines the releases, but even at £1.99 it seems overpriced. If you're into PS3 trophy collecting it's an easy way to add a few to your collection, but there's so little to do you'll spend most your time with the 'game' trying to figure out what you're meant to be doing when you're already doing it.

On the demo front SEGA's tactical RPG Valkyria Chronicles is easily the pick of the bunch, giving gamers a taste of the wonderful looking PS3 game ahead of its late October release. Hail to The Chimp isn't nearly as impressive and for many the demo will convince them not to pick up the full game. Elsewhere there's an assortment of videos, a WipEout theme, DLC for Mega Man 9 and Buzz!, and the usual assortment of Rock Band tracks.

I certainly am aware of scene demos, but I don't remember being charged to look at them. If Sony is going to charge for what should have been released for free then it has to be more than something you basically just look at. It doesn't matter if it's only a few quid. The average consumer is going to think that they are buying a game, which is why it was important to point out that Linger in the Shadows isn't really anything of the sort.

"PSN's Linger in Shadows can't really be described as a game"

That's the whole point, it's art, not a game. it's not even trying to be a game.

Didn't you guys ever have an Amiga or Atari ST? Don't you know what the original meaning of 'Demo' was back in the day? I dispair.

Played the tenchu game and it's absolutely piss-poor, not even worth the demo.
