Fable II is one of the best games we've played this year and rightly sits highly in the Xbox 360 hall of fame. It lets you be the hero you want to be, performing good or bad deeds, specialise in certain areas of combat and start a family. Choices in a video game have never been so important, but being the ungrateful lot that we are, we're already licking our lips in anticipation of the inevitable Fable III. Desperate for it to be the greatest game ever made (and score a perfect 10 review) we knocked our morally ambiguous heads together and came up with our Top 10: Ideas that will make Fable III a masterpiece.
10. Combat

Combat in Fable II is split between weapons (melee and ranged) and magic. Neither requires much skill. We know Lionhead wanted to create a game that everyone could play, but a steeper challenge and a more complex combat system would go down very nicely in Fable III. It's not essential, and we'd probably settle for a much improved targeting system, but something between the button-mashing combat of Fable II and the complexities of Ninja Gaiden would be brilliant. Some improvements to the magic casting system would also be welcome as the way you organise your spells in Falbe II is a little clunky - not being able to instantly access your most powerful spells did get a little irritating.
9. No loading

This is something we got used to in Fable II, but the loading screens are annoyingly long and too frequent. In Fable II when you walk to the edge of an area you're then teleported to a new area and told how long it would have taken if you were to do the job on foot, which isn't an option. They're basically separate levels - there's no open world walking here, and there's no sense that you've actually travelled there. One area might well look completely different to the next, but you don't get to see how the landscape and environment gradually changes. We're incredibly picky, so we still want the incredibly useful quick travelling, but being able to freely wander about without a loading screen popping up would give Fable III a grander sense of scale. Basically, we want places to be linked by real land we can actually travel through.

Here's what they can do to make Fable II a masterpiece (a patch would be neat):
10. Slippy feet syndrome - immersion breaker in an RPG, remove it
9. Lag - that's basically what it feels like sometimes even when playing offline, fix it
8. Allow players to press 'up' to access the last item in a menu rather than having to scroll all the way through it from the top
7. Let shops compare stock items against what you have equipped rather than just using their own inventory to decide what the best item is
6. Be a bit more lenient with the proximities when opening chests, pressing A to interract with NPCs and when examining noticeboards/signposts
5. Make the existing region maps zoomable and an onscreen directional compass
4. Stop multiple adoring fans from being able to follow you through doorways unless you use the 'follow' command
3. Let us prioritise which healing items are used rather than offering us fatty meats/pricey potions seemingly randomly
2. Allow more than one save slot per save device
1. Remind us if we've already bought/used a book when browsing booksellers
Edit: I'll take back point 2, just discovered you can have multiple saves on one device, however - when starting a new game and saving for the first time you're not sure if it's going to save over your first game or not if you don't know you can have multiple saves in advance.
Whilst I'm here I might as well do a Fable III wishlist :)
10. Invisibility spell, does away with sneak mechanics and allows you to sneak into the middle of a bandit camp to surprise them
9. Lockpicking skill mini-game, pinch an idea or three from Bioshock, or use something along the lines of the existing job mechanics to open locked doors
8. Allow your pet to develop a little more drastically, his own little halo or angel wings, maybe some demonic armor
7. Make barrel smashing rewarding again, let them contain parts we can use to upgrade our existing weapons with better range, faster zoom, bigger swipes etc
6. Longer story campaign
5. Add a fog of war to the maps so we can see areas we haven't explored (ala Oblivion)
4. Throwing knives, shurikens, spears, polearms, bows - more weapon classes basically
3. Shields (if we're going to use a one-hand sword and block, might as well do it properly
2. Bring back fishing!

I also wanted to know why the maps don't Zoom or am I missing something and there should be barrel smashing for goods and treats like the first.
Thanks

For anti-fat, celery! Trouble is it's hard to get, so I kept in trim by not carrying around any meat, just potions which aren't as fattening. Produce vendors usually carry 2 or 3 pieces of celery so I pick it up whenever I'm near one.
Hope that helps, agree with the barrel smashing and wish the maps were zoomable too.

mean having the same character throughout the whole game but get to design them at different ages later on in the game. Also the clothes on fable 2 were pretty dodgy I miss all of the heavy armour that made you look like a true hero. Oh yea and cool accesories
