Welcome to Heads-up, VideoGamer.com's weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Tuesday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to splash the cash.
Jumping on the Wii Zapper bandwagon is Capcom's Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Featuring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 plus never before seen environments, the game will concentrate on Wesker's return and reveal new details on the evil corporation Umbrella. Players will get to take control of Chris, Jill, Rebecca, Billy and Carlos in single-player and two-player co-op modes.
Blacksite, the third of Midway's big three Q4 titles, hits stores on Friday and promises to come packed full of sci-fi first-person shooter action. The Unreal Engine 3 shooter has had a few development problems, notably losing the planned co-op mode, but could still provide alien-obsessed gamers with more out of this world enemies to slaughter.
Based on the upcoming motion picture of the same name, The Golden Compass is releasing on all leading formats and sees players assume the role of Lyra, a young girl, along with her daemon Pantalaimon. Gamers will also control Byrnison, a great armoured polar bear who battles to protect Lyra during their journey. Expect to see characters from the movie brought to life with likenesses of the movie's cast, including Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra.
This week PlayStation 3 gamers can finally get hold of two titles which have for one reason or another been quite heavily delayed compared to the Xbox 360 versions. Midway's Stranglehold is a very solid action title which brings John Woo's directorial style to a video game for the first time and sees Chow Yun-Fat reprise his "Hard Boiled" role of Inspector Tequila. Second up is Blazing Angels: Secret Missions of World War II, the aerial combat sequel which sees players leading Operation Wildcard, an undercover and elite squad of pilots created by the American government. The PS3 version includes innovative use of the Sixaxis controller, plus an all-new multiplayer racing mode.
