Welcome to VideoGamer.com Plays, our weekly feature where we give you the inside track on what's been whirring in our disc drives this week. We'll be honest (so if we've been playing Superman on the N64 we'll tell you). But if we've been hammering the latest billion-selling blockbuster we'll let you know about that too.
Tom Orry, Editor - MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, PS3
We didn't get a chance to play MotorStorm: Pacific Rift at E3, but luckily Sony sent over the E3 demo this week. As a fan of the first game I was eager to see what changes had been made and to get a look at the new island environment. After an hour or so burning round a jungle location I came to the conclusion that not much has changed - which is a good thing. I did get to use the new Monster Truck though, which I can see being a favourite of mine when the game hits stores later this year. I'm not the best at holding my own during rough races so being bigger than the rest certainly helps. The new charge attacks also work very well when you're in control of such a giant vehicle. I actually felt sorry for a few of the AI bike riders whom I sent tumbling to their doom off a cliff edge.
Wesley Yin-Poole, Deputy Editor - Doodle Hex, Nintendo DS
This week my Xbox 360 died (sniff). I got the dreaded red ring of death. Instead of unbearable sadness, I instead experienced a kind of apathy. I've always expected my 360 to RRoD at some point. I guess, since I got it at launch, I should be thankful that it's lasted this long. Still, what a pain in the arse. As a result I've been forced to stop playing the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta and seek out other forms of electronic entertainment - a difficult mission I've found in the traditional summer lull. And so, Doodle Hex, a quirky real-time strategy game for the DS, has taken up the slack, and it's doing an admirable job. Still, I long for my 360 and Street Fighter. If Capcom had only released access to the beta on the PS3, I'd still be playing it. Expect an update on my progress with MS customer support next week...
James Orry, News Editor - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Xbox 360
Man it's a quiet time of year for new game releases. So quiet that I've been hunting through the VideoGamer.com collection for something exciting to feed my gaming hunger. A few titles caught my eye - Lost Planet and Dead Rising - but it was Oblivion that I settled with. Although it's getting on in age in gaming years, I had yet to experience what many people believe to be one of the best RPGs ever made. I'd heard all about the epic adventures of friends but still wasn't sure what to expect. As was probably the case with everyone when they played the game over a year ago, my first "WOW" moment came as I exited the sewer. Oblivion's visuals might look every so slightly dated compared to recent releases, but that view is just incredible. Who knows if I'll get time to venture onwards on my quest, but it was time well spent either way.

My RPG-senses are tingling though so Lost Odyssey might get a full workout next week.
Basically I'm just passing time until Too Human gets released on 29th August.

Know exactly what you mean re WoW. I expect I'll have to go through it all over again when WotLK is finally released!
