2007 vs. 2008: Which year has the best games?

In 2007 we had sequels for some of the biggest franchises around. Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 broke sales records, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction gave us a next-gen debut for a classic PS2 franchise, Super Mario Galaxy breathed new life into a near dead genre, The Orange Box packaged together some of the best games of all time, PGR4 marked the end of an era for one of the best racers of our generation and God of War 2 dazzled PS2 owners who hadn't made the next-gen jump. 2007 was a massive year for sequels.

2008 looked to have no hope competing on the sequels front, but it seems to have pulled a few rabbits out of the hat. Already this year we've had GTA 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4, two of the biggest franchises in video game history. And that's just the start. Gears of War 2 will be a massive hit and Fable 2 is the sequel to the multi-million selling Xbox RPG. FarCry 2 seems like quite a reinvention for the series, but builds on the open-ended gameplay touched upon in the original, and Fallout 3 is most definitely going to appeal to long-time fans. It's a new entry in a massively popular RPG series and is coming from the makers of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Enough said.

World of Warcraft Burning Crusade?

Unless there's a bunch of titles released this year that nobody told us about and turn out to be hits then 2007 was one of the best years for gaming in... years. It was the year that gamers were pulling their hair out over whether to get Assassin's Creed or COD4, or Forza 2 or PGR 4, or they were nicely loaded and got all of them.

2007 was basically defined by the number of "Versus" threads popping up from gamers wanting to get the best value for their parents' money.

Too Human is up for a "Most likely to blow my socks off 2008" award, but even if it gets a 10/10 it's an action-RPG so not quite as 'mainstream' as the usual titles.

Therefore I think 2007 will be remembered as a vintage year, and deservedly so. 2008 is a cracking year for RPGs though, so an RPG-fan might push for 2008 making it two great years in a row, and of course 2009 sees FFXIII arrive ;)

Forza or PGR? Just buy a ps3 and get Gran Turismo, better than the both of them.

If videogamer.com give a PS3 exclusive a 10/10 then 2008 will be the best year ever lol, no chance of that happenin though.

For PS3 owners this has definatley been a better year though still had a good few games last year, Motorstorm definately under-rated! Still playin it!

uuhh you do realize you put Super Smash Bros. Melee instead of Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the last page

Other than that an excellent feature. I Cant wait for Fallout 3 and Mirrors Edge.

Well, do u guys have any blood-fued sort of thing with crytek???
THEN WHY THE BLOODY HELL ARE U SO BIASED WHILE HANDLING CRYSIS???
First u under-rate it , to me it was a 10/10 game and damn better than cod4 , mass effect , etc(and to me itz the game of the year)
Also i 've so far completed the game more than 10 times and i have no intentions to stop the number growing as the game's so very dynamic ,each time u play the levels come out differently(and i didnt even touch Mass effect onnce after completing it )
And u people havent even mentioned Crysis in the list of the remaining good games of 07 and nor in the articles.I ask u???

IRohanIgame: Crysis was intended to be on the rest of 2007 list. Somehow we forgot to add it. Thanks for pointed it out. It also nearly made our Top 10 of 2007. It was in the top 20 until we whittled that down to 10.

Probably go with 2007 just cos of halo 3 but rpgs wise definitely 2008: fable 2 and fallout 3 wa BAM!!
