I've been trying, in a quite pathetic manor, to beat Wez's Pacifism score in Geometry Wars 2. Every night, at around 10:30, I turn on the 360, head to most recently played games and load up Geometry Wars 2. I have a love/hate relationship with the game at the moment. I can't stop myself from playing it, yet the constant failure at Pacifism actually makes me hate myself. It's all to do with the way I die. I can accept death at the hands of one of those bastard blue enemies, but when I ram straight into one of those incredibly obvious "look I'm glowing orange as a warning not to hit me" gate ends the safety of the people in the room is in doubt. I'm not even trying to get an especially high score.

You can expect a review proper soon, but what I will say now about this hand held remake of one of the most popular RPGs ever is that while it feels like an incredibly old game, with some archaic gameplay elements that haven't aged well at all, it still retains a charm and emotional pull modern day big-budget JRPGs struggle to nail. It's rock hard, provides little in the way of help to the player, but is guaranteed to please any hardcore RPG fan for hours on end. Oh, and reading Scottish accented text is just hilarious.

After being well and truly obliterated in the VideoGamer.com Game Night on Monday - Halo 3 isn't my strong suit - I spent the next few days slowly rebuilding my video game confidence with a mixture of EyeToy, Wii Play and Barbie Horse Adventures. It wasn't pretty, but a solid 10 hour gaming session playing as a virtual recreation of a plastic doll is enough to sort out even the most jaded of gamers. Thankfully things have picked up in recent days, setting my new personal best on Geometry Wars 2's Pacifism mode. Annoyingly it came during a session full of consistent scoring, but I was unable to push on to challenge either Tom or Wez's high scores.

Customisable characters... aren't they great? Sometimes I think it's a bad idea for me to play games that let you mess around with the look of your hero. I know that fooling about is half the point, but occasionally I get so much enjoyment out of building butt-ugly freaks that I forget about the rest of the game. Thankfully, Saints Row 2 is absolutely stuffed with this kind of free-form messing around - and its sense of humour is refreshingly low-brow, too. This game lets you play as a cross-gendered maniac who sprays innocent bystanders with torrents of liquid poo. It's not very grown-up, but it's certainly a unique experience.

In other related gaming shennanigans, I posted a link to a video containing the Top 20 Videogame Tracks of all Time as voted for members of 2ch in the 'What Are You Listening Too' post-fest which chewed up a good 45 minutes of my life, worth a listen if you like your retro. Maybe Videogamer.com could do something equivalent later on?
Glad to see everyone seems to have finally kicked the World of Warcraft habit, I've been WoW-less for 2 months now. And yet it's just a click away as I haven't uninstalled.
