Welcome to VideoGamer.com Plays, our weekly feature where we give you the inside track on what's been whirring in our disc drives this week. We'll be honest (so if we've been playing Superman on the N64 we'll tell you). But if we've been hammering the latest billion-selling blockbuster we'll let you know about that too.
Tom Orry, editor - Soul Bubbles, Nintendo DS
This little DS puzzle adventure came as quite a surprise. Publisher Eidos had been billing it as something unique, but to be honest I was sceptical. During a couple of lengthy train journeys this week I was blowing bubbles all over the place, slicing them in half, shrinking them, filling them with water to put out fires and more. It's a really simple game and has a gameplay resemblance to Sony's LocoRoco (in that you need to squeeze circular objects through small passages), but it's brilliant handheld gaming.
Wesley Yin-Poole, Deputy Editor - Ninja Gaiden 2, Xbox 360
I guess it's just not my type of game. While Tom gave Itagaki's swansong an impressive nine out of 10 in his review, I can't see what all the fuss is about. The camera is befuddling, the control system weak and the combat a repetitive mishmash of button hammering and constant death. Oh, and the voice acting and story are as immature as the bouncing breasts that flash on screen every five seconds. All this from what's supposed to be the pinnacle of action gaming. Whatever.
James Orry, News Editor - Ninja Gaiden 2, Xbox 360
To be honest a severe case of Man Flu has held back my gaming ambitions this week, but I did get time to dabble with Ninja Gaiden 2. One boss battle in particular was highly memorable: The lava armadillo proved ever so slightly frustrating. Once I discovered its weak spot was its head, knocking the armoured annoyance to the ground became a simple case of charging towards its head and unleashing hell. It was only then that the cheating bastard decided to self destruct taking Ryu with it. I must have got this far about 6 times only to be nuked at the end, but finally after beating it with a full health bar the explosion wasn't enough to deplete all my life and I had won. Suck on that armadillo.
