What we've been playing this week.
Jamin Smith, Staff Writer - Amnesia: The Dark Descent, PC
Lights off, curtains drawn, headphones on, volume up. Bathing in the darkness of my empty house, I booted up Amnesia: The Dark Descent for the first time. I get a real kick out of being scared and wanted to ensure I was subjecting myself to the best conditions possible. Three hours later and I was scrambling for the nearest light switch; despite loving horror in all its forms, I wasn't prepared for how much the game would get under my skin. It's one of those games that's downright uncomfortable to play. Unless you're carrying your trusty lantern or huddling around the light emitted from the odd candle, you're not safe. A mere glance at the game's lumbering enemies is enough to deplete your sanity meter, so you simply don't look. As all good horror films prove, not knowing is far more frightening than knowing, which makes the occasional appearance of those... things, incredibly harrowing. It's an incredibly clever gameplay device, and used to staggering effect. I reckon I'm about three-quarters of my way through the game now, and I'm already confident it's knocked Condemned off its pedestal as the scariest game I've played. It's still holding its value at £12.99 on Steam, but I urge anybody who loves the excitement of being scared to check it out.
Martin Gaston, Staff Writer - Mass Effect 2, 360, PS3, PC
After last week's pledge, I promptly decided to abandon Red Dead Redemption and play Mass Effect 2 instead. Since I dropped forty hours into it across five days last year, I realised how few games have the same power over me as BioWare's space-opera sequel. For my second run I've decided to go through on Insanity difficulty as an Infiltrator (I decided against taking my Vanguard class out of retirement) and I've just landed on Horizon for my first face-off with the Collectors. Anyone who remembers this bit knows I'm in for quite a challenge, but this week I might actually persevere.
Emily Gera, Staff Writer - Bladerunner, PC
Westwood's Bladerunner: the only film-to-game adaptation you need in your life. It's also one of my top ten favourite games of all time, trivia fans. To be fair half of the enjoyment is based on it not being a re-telling of the original film. This time you play a different detective, Ray McCoy, hunting down a series of replicants in future LA. Rather than puzzles the game largely consists of detective work. Track down particular characters, interview them, search for clues, carry out Voight-Kampff tests on suspects. It's a fantastic, moody, atmospheric film noir-alike with as many tips of the hat to William Gibson's Neuromancer as Bladerunner the film.
Tom Pearson, Video Producer - Professor Layton and the Curious Village, DS
Me: "Hello, may I buy an apple off you my good lady?"
Old Frump: "Why yes of course my darling you can. However in order for me to give you the correct pricing of said apple you must first complete this puzzle. Which is written on the apple…...In invisible ink……and upside down……and it's in French…..with some German thrown in there too…………. I also didn't have enough room on the apple so half the puzzle is missing…..Enjoy ^_^"
Me: ">_<…….. srsly"

I've been playing Mass Effect 2 which I'm really getting into now. And spent a fair bit of time on Marvel vs Capcom 3 which I really enjoy even though I pretty much get destroyed online. Saying that, 18 ranked losses in a row and then I bagged my first win. I can only imagine the shame I caused that person.
Bloodstorm@ Woffls
Not me though, i could do with some easy learning seeing as i dont have the time to do what i had to do with SF Alpha 1 and 2.
Really sorry for your loss Ghost, you really do have my sympathy.

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 - The first fighting game that I have enjoyed in a long time, it's different and the on-screen action is intense and fun and, suprisingly, not as hard to pull off as you might imagine. I hope to get a lot more play time out of this before KillZone 3 arrives.
Heavy Rain - Platinumed this finally and it re kindeled (sp?) my love for this game, it's probably my second favourite game ever.
StarCraft 2 - I'm trying slowly to get back into this, unfortunatly, I don't think it's working.
Robo Defense - A basic tower defence game on Android, fun.

Been playing F1 2010, Need for speed Undercover and Il2:BoP. Got a new steering wheel so I've been bashing the only two games that are really wheel worthy! Undercover isn't too bad with a wheel.
Anyone be able to suggest a couple games I could get!? Is TDU2 good with the Logitech Driving force GT?
El-Dev
Fifa 11.

Dead Rising 2 is all I've really been playing, trying for a perfect run but unlike Martin I have to use some help along the way. I do enjoy it very much all the same.

Well ive been playing alot of TDU2 and bits of madden 11 :)
CheekyLee@ Ghost5
For me, the biggie is Marvel vs Dante 3. It really has been worth the 10 year wait, it's quite glorious. I also managed to snag myself a copy of TDU 2, but .... yeah, that's not great. I'll give it more of a chance, but let's just say that I am thankful I didn't pay for it.
I also played a fairly epic game of Words with Friends on the iPhone, where my score of 342 wasn't enough to win. The guy I was playing got 115 points with 'JEON' on a triple word, which put his score over the 400 mark!

Wont be playing much though

I take serious issue with the difficulty curve of the game, and how poor a job it does of teaching you how to play, in that it doesn't.
Red Dead Redemption - My second attempt at this because I got bored last time, and I spent an hour rounding up cattle. Needless to say, my second attempt was equally unsuccessful. How this game has gotten so much praise, I don't know.

Had a good pop at BlOps online too, I'm still incredirubbish but at least I'm getting a bit of a flavour ahead of my Uni-boys catch up weekend which always involves lots of CoD!
Edit:
Oh yeah, just saw my signature - played a massive bunch of Borderlands yesterday too. Thought I wasn't into it as it's an FPS and I'm a bit useless. Then four hours later I finally turned it off! I love missions and so on and the fact that it lets you have lots on the go at the same time is very good (bad?!) for making me want to keep playing. Just one more go...! Quite like Fallout 3 - which is why I bought it in the first place.
If anyone is PS3ing and fancies some Borderlands co-op I'm well up for it.

lbp 2 just chipping away at main story.
killzone 2 with the third edition coming soon I wanted to familiarise myself with the game again. I know this isn't the same for the vast majority but I prefer the shooting controls etc in this over games like cod.
Finished dragon age awakening so now have a save ready for dragon age 2.
Oh and noob vegas I have boone and edi following me and at the moment its making things a little easy.
