The debut GTA trailers
Feature
The very first trailer for each Grand Theft Auto, from GTA 3 through to GTA 5.
The GTA 5 trailer debuted yesterday, proving to be one of the video game events of the year so far. Rockstar definitely knows how to make a trailer, so we've grouped together the debut trailers for every GTA game released since GTA 3. Which one is your favourite?

I think GTA IV is still the best for me. I'll never forget how excited I was to see that for the first time: the new Liberty City, Niko and those first words of his. Incredible.
San Andreas is pretty bitching, too. Proper balls-out swagger to that one.
Loved yesterday's clip too.

The Vice City one is a much more confident video and doesn't even show any action. Its a showcase of how beautiful the setting is.
San Andreas is incredible. Its a hollywood blockbuster trailer.
"A Rockstar North Production.. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas!"
Action packed, willing to show off its setting, hints of an intense story and some fresh camera movements. The lighting is superb, the atmosphere is tense and the editing is sharp.
GTA: Liberty City Stories just says movie to me. The trailer is more of a budget production. Its a presumptuous trailer that seems to rely on people already wanting the game.
GTA: Vice City Stories seems as if they are fully comfortable with who they are now. Its a production that seems to have settled into a groove. Its a great trailer and shows that Rockstar are trying to push the action packed, cinematic story concept home. This trailer looks most like a movie trailer. Again it has some really nice editing techniques that represent the 80's theme.
GTAIV is easily the most atmospheric trailer so far. But, I feel that its similar to the original Vice City trailer. Rockstar realise that they have created some really impressive tech. The trailer is a showcase of the architecture and scenery. We all know what GTA is by now, so instead they show us what the new generation of console has brought to the GTA universe. The little Niko Bellic voice-over is a nice touch. It generates a story in our minds, but doesn't give away too much. Very gritty trailer.
GTAIV: The Lost and the Damned is great. No need to show off the city anymore, as we've all lived in it already. Its a showcase of violent criminals. You will be in this gang. You will be in a serious trouble. You will be fighting to survive. The atmosphere is amazing. The editing and cinematic feel are superb. The closest to a movie any of the trailers have come.
Chinatown Wars is a clever trailer. The game isn't as cinematic and doesn't have amazing visuals to show off. Instead they have grasped the illustrated feel of the game and created more of a motion graphics, comic book intro. The audio pushes the gangster feel, while the motion illustrations show off the character. I'm not sure that I like the small gameplay clips inside of the big black frames. It's obviously to show as much action as possible without showing poor resolutions. But, I'm not keen.
GTAIV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, like 'The Lost and Damned', is one of the most achieved trailers. It is a hollywood blockbuster trailer, which shows it all off. Everything that was good about all of the other trailers is in this trailer. Bearing in mind that we ALL know what Grand Theft Auto is and does by now, this is pretty much perfect as a video game trailer.
GTAV
Okay, now having watched ALL of the other trailers in sequence, this trailers production values really are something special. The trailer is so self-assured that its pretty much a 2 minute tease. They don't need to show off what GTA does. So, they have gone back to showing off the environment. Its game engine porn. Technically its a visual masterpiece [but thats probably for another time]. The voice-over sets the scene, while the world gets you wet. The trailer shows very little gameplay except for little teases of action. The city itself looks more alive than it ever has before and reintroduces the classic GTA sillyness. There is a good reason that I wear a R* logo as my avatar and THIS trailer is it.
Tough to pick a favourite because, naturally, I am super excited when watching the GTAV trailer. Each trailer for a GTA AAA title seems to better the last. I think 'The Ballad of Gay Tony' & 'The Lost and Damned' are the two best trailers. With the 'Chinatown Wars', 'Liberty City Stories' being the weakest.
Although the 'San Andreas' trailer is fantastic and the 'GTAV' trailer gets me super excited.. I'm gonna say that 'Lost and Damned' is my favourite trailer. :)
Apologies for the HUGE response. But, I don't often get to talk about these things with people. :P
