Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates Features for DS

On: DS

Welcome to Heads-up, VideoGamer.com's weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Tuesday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to splash the cash.

Recommendation of the Week: God of War: Chains of Olympus, PSP
Back when Sony first announced the PSP it was sold as a portable PlayStation 2, dazzling onlookers with visuals thought impossible on a handheld. It's been a long time coming, but finally PSP owners have a game which feels every bit like a handheld PS2 title.

God of War: Chains of Olympus is an all-new game in the franchise - not a port of the previous two PS2 games - and is set ten years prior to events from the first game. The most striking aspect is just how jaw-droppingly gorgeous the game looks, blowing away everything we've previously seen on the PSP. It's not only a graphical master class though, with developer Ready at Dawn having brilliantly translated the dual stick controls from the home console game to the single stick PSP.

The only negative is that a single time through GoW: Chains of Olympus will only take around five hours. It's so good though that you'll likely want to play through this over and over again.

Also out this week
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, PS3: Sony's premier racing franchise, Gran Turismo, makes its second appearance on PS3 this week, although for the second time is only a taster of what's to come. Prologue presents a snippet of what gamers can expect from the full Gran Turismo 5 in 2009, containing a handful of courses, plenty of cars and, for the first time in the series, online play. The game will also be released on Thursday as a downloadable game on the PSN.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, Wii: Konami's first PES title for Wii promises to offer even greater control of the action than has ever been possible in previous games. Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, players will not only be able to accurately guide players around the pitch, but also perform pinpoint accurate passes, off-the-ball runs and much more. There's also online play and Mii integration in what is an exciting new direction for the series.

Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, PC: The cheesy live-action sequences return in the first expansion for EA's Command & Conquer 3. The game focuses on Brotherhood of Nod leader, Kane, chronicling his rise back to power after the second Tiberium War and continuing all the way through the third Tiberium War and beyond.
