'Exceptional demand' for PS3, 360 and Wii exclusives

LittleBigPlanet, Gears of War 2 and Wii Fit all sell well, says GAME.

The busy Christmas period saw "exceptional demand" for platform exclusives including Wii Fit, LittleBigPlanet and Gears of War 2, according to GAME.

The news comes during a time when many publishers believe games must be released multiplatform in order to maximise sales.

Said the company: "GAME experienced exceptional consumer demand for a number of single format games, including Mario Kart and Wii Fit on Nintendo Wii, LittleBigPlanet on Sony PS3, Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 on Microsoft Xbox 360 and Brain Training and Professor Layton on Nintendo DS."

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, sales at GAME were up 16.6 per cent for the six weeks ended January 10, and up 5.4 per cent like for like.

Last week we brought you the news that PS3-exclusive LittleBigPlanet had sold 1.3 million units worldwide. Over 200,000 of those sales were from the UK.

I suppose it would be over estimated that Game sold half of the units. 100,000 now divide that by the number of days sales it had before Christmas which is 49 that equals 2041 units perday. Now divide that by the numer of Game stores 2041/1348 = 1.5 Sales per store per day. Shocking! Reply

Actually looking at the calculations approx 1 PS3 was sold per day in store and probably had LBP bundled in with it or at least half of the sales. So was there a big take up of this game by PS3 owners not purchasing the console at christmas? Actually looks like a no. I mean, they've got a really good first-party line up now, and they still can't accumulate any good sales. The console needs a price cut and some heavy marketing if there's any hope of its worldwide sales ever catching up with the 360. Report Reply

I saw one TV advert for it just after the whole music removal delay debacle and obviously it was in the paper loads around that time, but that was it. Nothing else, not in newspapers, magazines, no TV adverts, zip. I have the game anyway, so can I be exempt from your wrath?! Report Reply

Games make the money not consoles. And when sales are this rubbish for a console no wonder they're getting these problems. I think most of our forum guys who own a PS3 are exempt from my wrath. They all seem to buy and defend the exclusives even the rubbish ones. (MGS4 cough cough lol.) << Thats a Joke its too shit to be classed as rubbish ha ha. Seriously i'm kinda joking. Anyhow in my eyes there was extreme levels of advertising. Before christmas i can pretty much say it was on in between every primetime show on most channels massive campaign push.
