Could also star a female assassin.
The inevitable Assassin's Creed 3 could be set in World War II and feature a female assassin, Ubisoft has said.
Speaking to UK mag Xbox World 360 and reported by CVG, producer Sébastien Puel said Ubisoft has "had discussions" about the change.
When quizzed on the possibility of a female assassin, Puel replied: "We've had discussions on that very topic.
"It could be really interesting but we'd need to find the right time period and place for that.
"Where would that make sense? We don't want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero as the first inspiration is always the time period, but if you're talking about, say, World War II the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting.
"So maybe in this context you were a woman in England during WWII. Why not? Nothing prevents us from doing it."
The first two Assassin's Creed games star Desmond Miles, a bartender kidnapped for use as a test subject in the "Animus". The player controls Desmond's assassin ancestors during historical periods.
In the same report, creative director Patrice Fortier said that Ubisoft "could do 35" Assassin's Creed games.
The series was originally thought of as a trilogy.
"What's so great about Assassin's Creed is that we can just expand and expand," he said.
"I'm often asked if we're doing a third game after ACII... I mean, we could do 35 of these."
Assassin's Creed 2 is scheduled for release on November 20 for Xbox 360 and PS3. For the latest trailers, screens and previews, head over to our game page.

Seems kind of cocky as if they sure it will do well if assasins creed doesn't improve on the last one alot then I really think theres no scope for a third which would be a shame as theres so much potential there.

How about, say Victorian Britain? Or, the 1920's America, during prohibition? Have Desmond take advantage of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, or the Wall Street Crash or something.

The beauty of AC is that the stroy can stay pretty much the same, and only the backdrop need change. You can take any period in history more or less, as was implied by Patrice Fortier's comments.
Victorian London could be cool. An assassin roaming the streets around the same time as Jack The Ripper might add a nice twist.
Rome, 2000 years ago. Or ancient Greece.
1938 Berlin (with Nazi Germany being the backdrop, pre-WWII).
Late 18th Century France during the revolution.
So many possibilities.
