The Finals hasn’t received a new regular update this week because the developer is currently working on delivering ‘something very cool’. It’s ambiguous phrasing from Embark designed to create hype as well as mystery. While there’s no hints as to what the ‘very cool’ addition could be, there’s the possibility it is a new mode previously teased in The Finals.
Although not a regular update, Embark has still shared minimal 2.5.1 patch notes. This finally added the best weapon to the store in the form of the comically large spoon skin for the sledgehammer. While fans are thankful that the spoon skin has finally arrived, many others are waiting for the goth skin that was teased in the Season 2 trailer.
While the store rotation is neat for adding the spoon, it’s not the usual regular update that adds a host of balance changes along with tweaks and bug fixes. Update 2.6.0 will arrive in the near future, and it could possibly be adding a new game mode.
The Finals update 2.6.0 might add new mode
In explaining why there is no update 2.6.0 for The Finals this week, Embark said they are working to deliver a significant update. There’s no hint as what will be added, but it was referred to as ‘Something very cool’.
Alongside this ‘very cool’ addition, update 2.6.0 will also provide announced incoming nerfs that have massively divided fans online. These nerfs are for the stun gun as well as the cloaking device in an effort to completely obliterate the Light class according to some disgruntled players.
While incoming nerfs for the Light class might divide fans especially depending on the end result, the tease of ‘Something very cool’ is undoubtedly enticing. Again, there’s no hint from Embark in their message, but it could be a new mode previously teased by the developer.
We previously reported that a new game mode has possibly been teased for The Finals. This teaser stems from a new intro cutscene that was added to the game in update 2.4.0. You can check out the intro below uploaded to YouTube:
Reacting to a screenshot of the possibly teased new mode on Reddit, the replies were full of speculation. One of the top replies said, ‘This is definitely SYS$HORIZON and the console is new… Some hacking type mode’.
Fans have speculated that it could be 5v5, but most of the speculation concerns what the actual game mode is all about. Some have speculated that it could be like ‘Rush mode from Battlefield,’ meanwhile, others have suggested it could be a ‘Search and Destroy hack style objective mode’.
According to one of the replies, Search and Destroy seems to be the most popular theory amongst the community. However, it could also be similar to Hardpoint from MW3 or it could be something like Capture the Vault.
Either way, we’ll have to wait until update 2.6.0 drops for the ‘very cool’ addition to be unveiled. Embark said the next update will arrive in the ‘the next week or two’ which implies either May 1st or May 8th.
