Online gaming can be an incredibly toxic experience, and Helldivers 2 does have its share of toxicity in the community. But, when it comes to community servers, many players turn to these as a safe space to discuss their favorite games and find people to connect and play with. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case with one Helldivers 2 community as it has received allegations of breaking TOS, banning users that criticise the moderators, and even death threats.
A Helldivers 2 community Discord server called Doom Divers has come under fire after offering paid boosting servers to help players level up their Helldivers in order to skip much of the grind in the game. Despite being a violation of the terms of service, boosting services are nothing new in gaming. The server has also been selling embed permissions on the Discord server, another TOS violation. However, the main reason the Helldivers 2 community is being urged to stay away from Doom Divers is due to the alleged death threats that members have received from moderators and admins of the server.
In a Reddit post, u/Duke_Potato details many of the controversies the Doom Divers server is currently facing, largely due to its many TOS violations for both Helldivers 2 and Discord itself, along with the unprofessional actions of the people running the server. The Reddit post reveals that the server recently took a sponsorship from Blazing Boost, a platform which offers boosting servers to increase levels, ranks, and in-game items across a variety of games including Destiny 2, Final Fantasy 14, League Of Legends, and Palworld.
Blazing Boost recently began to offer boosting services for Helldivers, including character levelling and earning players samples. The sample service can cost as much as 198 Euros and the levelling service can go all the way to 596 Euros if you want to take your character from level 1 to 50 without having to play yourself. Offering these services is against the Helldivers 2 TOS, with it stating that “Do not share, buy, sell, rent, sub-license, trade, transfer, phish for, or harvest any accounts, account details, or other account credentials.”
The owner of the Doom Divers server responded to the allegations and shed light on the sponsorship with Blazing Boost saying,
“We expected low conversions with this specific sponsor because we, like you, understand that there is no point in power leveling in this game (Because many of us already sit at 300+ hours in game and capped on all resources with nothing to do). Our sponsor was not expecting much either from this promotion and we warned them that though it makes sense to promote to Helldivers. Helldivers have a certain amount of pride behind leveling up and will likely not take advantage of the service.”
The server owner also revealed that no members of the Doom Divers community used the server, but still took payment for the sponsorship, with him claiming that it will be used as prizes for upcoming events.
“To our knowledge, no one used the code, but we still got “paid” for the promotion by the sponsor directly. This promotion was done in order to help us set up prizes for our upcoming server events.”
As expected, the Helldivers 2 community responded negatively, with u/ScrollingMaster stating that “watching you keep bodying yourself is hilarious,” and u/FriendsCallMeBatman saying that they “hope every one of you gets banned by Arrowhead [Game Studios].”
When it comes to the alleged death threats, there hasn’t been any concrete evidence given, but numerous members claimed they were called out and banned for criticising the moderator team in the server.
Instead of boosting your account and risking being banned from the game, we recommend that you enjoy the Helldivers 2 experience yourself and allow your skill level in the game to progress alongside your character’s level. Being a novice at the game with a level 50 character won’t provide you with any advantage and will instead put you in a position where you will become a liability to your team and likely be repeatedly kicked from missions.
