The new next-gen update for Fallout 4 has finally arrived, bringing the 2015 title to the current generation of consoles with improved performance, visuals, and brand-new content. With it looking like a new Fallout game won’t be making an appearance for at least another generation or two, this is the best we’ve got right now when it comes to experiencing the series on modern hardware.

With the Fallout TV show recently landing on Amazon Prime Video, a lot of attention is on Fallout 4, making this a perfect time for Bethesda to release the updated version of the game, which will surely bring in new players and sales for the Fallout series, and likely a trickle-down effect for other IPs including The Elder Scrolls and the more recent Starfield.

Players can now download the Fallout 4 next-gen update on all platforms. Here is the download size for each platform:

  • PC – 14.1 GB
  • Xbox Series X – 22.59 GB
  • PS5 – TBC

When turning on your PC or console you will be able to immediately download the new update. If it doesn’t automatically appear in your download queue, go to the game in your library and click the button to check for new updates, this is similar on every platform.

For console players, the new Fallout 4 next-gen update will add 60 FPS support with increased resolutions, as well as performance and quality mode settings. While on PC there will be widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, although this was previously achievable through third-party mods. If you’re looking to make the most out of the update and make Fallout 4 look as good as it can, check out our guide for the best GPUs for both Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. There will also be brand-new uniforms, weapons, armor, skins, and Halloween decorations for players on all platforms.

If you would like to keep the game vanilla and not update to the new version, we have a guide that will help you do just that. This could be important for mod support as it isn’t clear right now how this will affect mods going forward.
