Tom Orry, Editor - Ridge Racer 3DS, 3DS

I'll admit that I haven't touched this since I finished my review, but it's still the most fun I've had with the 3DS thus far. I expect future racers on the handheld to look far better, but this has the classic Ridge Racer powersliding gameplay fans of the series love. It has some neat 3D too, although this is only really apparent when you play from the bonnet cam. It's not nearly a striking enough effect to make me wax lyrical about how amazing the 3DS is, but it certainly adds depth and gives the fairly mediocre visuals a lift. From reading various opinions on the internet it seems this game is one of the worst for causing headaches due to eye strain, but I've suffered no problems whatsoever. If you've got a 3DS you should buy Ridge Racer 3D.

Neon Kelly, Deputy Editor - Mortal Kombat, PS3, Xbox 360.

Mortal Kombat is back, and it's as ridiculous as ever. I say that as a kompliment: rather than being a serious kompetitor to Street Fighter, the MK games were always happier to focus on bloody chuckles and spine-ripping spectacle. Despite klear efforts to up the komplexity of the fighting engine, sadistic showmanship is still the main draw. The new X-Ray moves are particularly entertaining, allowing for CSI-like detail as you smash your opponents' teeth in, krack their ribs, and make them puke all over your leg. I kan't say that it's particularly big or klever, but then it's not supposed to be. This is a game where you kan punch your opponent in the krotch, then finish the round by uppercutting their head off. I'll buy that for a dollar (or several, as the price will likely be).

Martin Gaston, Staff Writer - Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit screenshot

You know what reviewers of Hot Pursuit missed out? This noise: "HUURRRFFFFNNFF," which is usually followed by this nose: "JEEEEEEFUUUOOOSH." I can't even begin to count the amount of times I've spent minutes in front and then finished second because of some traffic clipping, or my fingers turning to jelly and fluffing a powerslide around the last corner. The compounded frustration of all this anguish has forced me into some kind of freaky Neanderthal state. Sure, the game looks phenomenal and when Benny Benassi feat. Gary Go - Cinema pops up while I'm acing a time trial I hit transcendental moments of pure undiluted bliss, but I still can't quite work out if it's worth all the frustration. I also can't seem to figure out how to perform perfect drifts, but that's probably a story for another day.

Emily Gera, Staff Writer - Mass Effect 2, Xbox 360

Mass Effect 2 screenshot

Last week I promised I'd be back with an update on Rift but I'm a liar and started playing Mass Effect 2 again instead - I'll get back to it this weekend as apparently they've already churned out a major patch that I ought to check out. I spent most of my week trying to squeeze as many achievements out of ME2 as I could, while testing the water with a female Commander Shepard. Ladyparts Shepard is a cruel commander with the face of a young Tara Reid and bodily scars like a present-day Tara Reid. Last time around I played as the standard male Shepard and went the goody two-shoes approach of trying to keep everyone happy, although I'm still not quite sure whether playing someone a bit more morally corrupt will effect the story that dramatically. Fantastic game but honestly, what is the purpose of flirting with Kelly?

New stuff to check out

I borrowed Bulletstorm from a mate at the weekend and whipped through the campaign in about 6 hours. Enjoyed it, but I'm glad I didn't buy it as I honestly couldn't see myself playing it solidly for a few months.

I've been playing a hell of a lot off Final Fantasy XIII this week and have only just got over the grinding (I hope!) I do love it though.
A little bit of Pokemon Diamond here and there to break it up a bit. I like to play Pokemon while listening to the Podcasts from VG because I don't need to concentrate on Pokemon that much :)

I completed Ratchet & Clank A Crack In Time last week so I may be tempted to get the older one to give that a go.

Update, justice prevails! Got an e-mail last night from Stardock support confirming they've used my serial number to link the game to my account, so I was able to update it and run it fine.

I secretly hope that the person who was using my serial number is now being interrogated in a windowless room somewhere deep underground by the FBI, but I think they might have bigger fish to fry.

The simple fact that Stardock obviously spent a lot of time looking into the matter (it took 16 days to resolve) made me a fan for life. They care. That matters.

I dunno, they're responded 6 times so far: 2 automated responses, 1 'did you buy it new?', 1 'can you prove it?', 1 'pics or it didn't happen' and 1 'send again, attachments not received', and yes I'm paraphrasing, they've been very polite.

That's is a lot of support for a £5.99 product the problem with which isn't really within their control, it just happens that someone is using my serial number (my guess is a pirate but you know what they say about assumption), so whilst I can't update my game at least I know that the support is decent.

I could just bring it back to PC World and get my money back, but justice is better if I can get some :)

Monday: 1000/1000 on Two Worlds 2 XBox 360
Tuesday: 200/200 on Torchlight XBLA
Wednesday onwards: Going for the last 4 cheevos in Forza 3, and dreading the Drift 100,000 points in one lap one. Yes, the YouTubes make it look simple, but having spent the last 995 Gamerscore being encouraged to drive with split-second timing and perfect positioning it's a bit out of character for me to suddenly start pulling handbrakes and flinging cars around corners with wild abandon.

GuildWars Prophecy, Factions and Nightfall are now installed and ready to go assuming NCSoft don't arbitrarily throw me a 'NCSoft Account Permanently Blocked' message like they did with my last account, proof that big ban hammers do occasionally whack the innocent. Thankfully the account wasn't in use at the time or I'd have been miffed.

Sins of a Solar Empire is still awaiting a valid registration key so I can play it (7 e-mails to Stardock Support now, and their final reply seems to be taking its sweet time even with the time difference).

But, fascinatingly, Torchlight keeps cropping up on my recent games played list, mainly because it has so many secrets, like the Secret Horse Level, and so much to do, like working out if there is actually a limit to how deep the Shadow Vaults go, and so much to discover, like what happens if you Transmute a certain type of Fish with a Rare Pistol, Rare Belt and Rare Shield.

It now ranks very highly as my Desert Island game of choice.

Marvel vs Capcom 3, Dead Space 2 and Pokemon White.

It's time for me to start getting games I didn't get when they first came out since there's nothing coming out until Portal 2.

Finished my first play on Ridge Racer 3D just a few minutes ago and I like it. Tom's spot-on regarding the 3D - it's used to add a bit of depth rather than pull you into the world of Ridge Racer. Played a solid 35 minutes and no eye strain of yet, so that's good. Looking forward to getting stuck in more. By the way, does anyone know how many tracks there are in the game?

Man, I love me some Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit and I find the handling great. If anyone fancies beating my lap times (which you might be able to do fairly easily), add me on XBL: punk beatz.

I never thought much of Hot Pursuit either. The handling is too unreliable because they've made it for people who don't play racing games, and it's just frustrating as hell when you make the last corner but OH DEAR there's 2 cars in front of you and now you've crashed.

Ridge Racer 3DS - Lots of fun, the drifting is possibly even better than Ridge Racer 6's, but I don't like having to turn off the BGM eevverryy time I start a new race. I've placed first in all but a couple of my 60 odd races so far, but I'm sure the difficulty will ramp up to absurdity in no time. But that's okay, because the ridges will still be perfectly raceable.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Online - I've gone on about this for a few days now, but it's just so much fun that I can't stop playing it. Even though it's just a Beta, and there's a couple of bugs, and I've already won all the matches, I still want to spend more time with it. So I've been going back through and winning all the matches with each of the 3 deck types: water, fire and grass. Despite being on Hard, it's quite easy, even when you're packing water Pokémon against grass. Go to and play it, because it's brilliant.

Going for the final achievement in The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai - hardest difficulty.

Also started playing Space Channel 5: Part 2. My word... is all I have to say on that. :p

Tempted to reinstall Mortal Kombat vs. DC to get in the mood for the upcoming MK9, but not sure I'll have time...

Still working my way through Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I'm on sequence seven now and am incredibly close to renovating every shop in Rome.

Picked up Dead Space 2 yesterday (for only £20) but am yet to start it up. Some part of me would like to get Assassin's Creed done and dusted before I start but you and me both know that's highly unlikely.

I've still to stop playing de Blob 2, I've now got S rank on every level and I'm half way through tidying up the collectables I've missed.

I start Vanquish which is a shock to the system after the chilled out de Blob.

And on the PSP I'm reliving Resident Evil (the voice acting seems even worse now).
