Nintendo charging a premium for New Super Mario Bros. 2 on 3DS eShop

Are you willing to pay £40, £10 more than the game costs from most shops?

New Super Mario Bros. 2 has been listed on the 3DS eShop priced £40, which is £10 more than the boxed retail version costs in most stores.

And it's only the new Mario outing which seems to carry the premium price tag, with New Art Academy and Freakyforms Deluxe listed at £29.99 and £24.99, respectively.

Nintendo hasn't said why NSMB2 is priced so high.

The game arrives in stores on Friday.

What worries me more is that Nintendo's consoles haven't had a good track record for keeping track of purchases and letting you redownload if your console breaks or you move to a new version.

Apparently you get double star for the Nintendo club online reward scheme if you buy the downloadable version. Whilst this isn't worth it for NSMB2, it could be good if you want to buy one of the other two "budget" titles now before they depreciate to much in price.

Woffls

If I was at the airport desperate to play New Super Mario Bros 2, and all I had was a wifi connection with not a game store in sight, then maybe I'd pay £40 for the convenience. I'd also place extra value in having the game stored on my 3DS and not needing a cartridge.

Obviously this is overpriced, but we've seen it before on consoles, and someone somewhere will be glad the option is still available. Hopefully the rest of us will just shrug and buy it for £30 from Amazon.

Also I thought the RRP (but not really an RRP) for 3DS games was £34.99? That's what I see them selling for in GAME anyway.
