SEGA Sammy posted a net profit of ¥2.5 billion ($32m / £20m) for the quarter ended June 30, 2012, versus the ¥2.2 billion loss in the same quarter last year, reports GamesIndustry.

The turnaround comes amidst the firm's restructuring of its US and European business, which includes the closing of many European offices and concentrating on successful core IP such as Sonic, Football Manager, Aliens and Total War.

SEGA's financial report pointed to "weakened demand" for packaged games, blaming the poor economic climate in the US and Europe.

Total sales of packaged games came to 1.34 million for the quarter, with the only major release being London 2012.

I'm gonna have to agree. Shenmue felt like the biggest tech demo on DC, lots of wandering around aimlessly and not a lot of game. That was my experience with it anyway.

I could never understand why so many people loved that game, so much loading and just felt generic to me.
Someone in my college loved it and couldnt stop talking about forklifting because of it.

Maybe now SEGA can be prompted to release some of their lesser known games since now would be the best time they've had for a while. I'm dying for Jet Set Radio 3.
