Total games industry sales have fallen by 19 per cent year-on-year to $443 million, according to figures released by The NDP Group.
Hardware sales are down 34 per cent to $99.4 million, with software dropping 20 per cent to $222.3 million.
Xbox 360 continues to maintain its dominance of the console market in the US, selling 107,000 units and earning a thirty-first consecutive month as the best-selling console in the region.
No other hardware figures were published, but Nintendo has said 3DS sales were up 14 per cent over the same period last year, putting its total in the 140,000 ballpark. Nintendo made no mention of Wii U hardware sales, while Sony hasn't offered any details relating to its platforms.
NCAA Football 14 was the best-selling game of July, beating Minecraft and The Last of Us, but no sales figures have been published.
Nintendo noted that Animal Crossing: New Leaf sold 150,000 combined physical and digital units during its second month on sale, with lifetime sales standing at 660,000 units.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon lifetime sales have surpassed 820,000 combined units, while New Super Mario Bros. U has surpassed 830,000 lifetime sales of combined units.
Venturebeat also reports that Shin Megami Tensei IV, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Grand Theft Auto 4: The Complete Edition for Xbox 360 would have made the Top 10 if only looking at single-format SKUs.
