Nintendo 3DS life sim Animal Crossing: New Leaf is getting a major new update later this year introducing new content and amiibo support, the game’s Japanese website has revealed.

The update, which will be available for free this autumn, will introduce support for the Animal Crossing amiibo family and, by the looks of it, Splatoon, with characters and items based on the shooter shown off in new screenshots.

Both amiibo and amiibo cards will be supported, although their exact functionality has yet to be detailed.

That isn’t the only new Animal Crossing content due soon, though: a new mobile game based on the series is also due for release this autumn.
